Matthew is a keen writer and has written various short stories and a book for youth workers entitled 'Never Work with Children!' He is embarking on a study of the boy's singing voice and the social as well as musical reasons why boys find it hard to sing. His writing has been used in magazines such as Free and @SU; his short story ‘Man of the Moment’ was a winning entry in the Raw Cuts competition hosted by Channel 4, 2006.
In 2010 Matthew completed a historical novel for children entitled 'For the King'. The novel has been highly commended in a competition run by the publisher Little Acorn Press.
