Matthew's work in Community Music is at the core of his artistic identity and has reached all over Scotland and beyond. He has worked for several projects in Glasgow, including music sessions for adults with Additional Support Needs for Hear my Music, and running sessions for teenagers and children for Givin' it Laldie. With an enduring passion for serving children in any context, Matthew has a heart for the vulnerable and isolated which he puts into practice daily. He has a track record of training and work with Scripture Union Scotland including his work as a group leader and archery coach and is a well known volunteer.
In the first two weeks of July 2012 he provided a music programme in Lugoj Orphanage, Romania, a centre for abandoned or disabled children and adults. To see his blog use this link: http://matt4lugoj.wordpress.com/
Matthew, not surprisingly, loves teaching children to sing and is a firm believer in the empowering benefits of music. He has directed several children's choirs and he is an assistant of the Gorbals Children's Choir where the children know him as 'Matt the Hat'! He is always looking for new ways to enrich the lives of children by helping them to experience and produce art of the highest level. From singing games and song-writing workshops to massive productions and full-scale concerts, singing holds incredible value for people of all ages but, for children, there is potential for untold transformation and enrichment. Matthew is dedicated to living out this belief in his creative output.
His most notable venture to date was the performance of his Choral Drama Such is the Kingdom which united the Bannerman Learning Community in a project culminating in two performances in Glasgow Cathedral, January 2013.
